Player Sponsorship Program
In December 2008, the GBYLA created a new Player Sponsorship Program for the purpose of providing a source of funds to purchase equipment and uniforms for players who would otherwise be unable to play. Through the generous contributions of GBYLA parents, $10,925 was raised during the 2009 Spring Season. In addition, the Community Foundation of Greater Birmingham made a one-time grant of $10,000 to enable the GBYLA to purchase equipment and uniforms for new start-up teams in the City of Birmingham.
From these funds, lacrosse equipment was purchased for 5 "scholarship" players who played on over-the-mountain teams, and for four City of Birmingham boys and girls teams totaling approximately 60 players. These City-based teams were boys and girls teams from Whatley Middle School, a Ramsey JV girls team, and the Birmingham Magic boys JV team comprised of boys from Woodlawn, Carver and Ramsey high schools.
Our intent and hope is to spread lacrosse to 2 more start-up teams in the City of Birmingham in Spring 2010.
"Thank you, thank you, thank you!!" to everyone who has contributed thus far to this effort. Below are the results from Spring 2009:
Platinum level ($1,000) - 1 donor Diamond level ($100) - 30 donors Gold level ($50) - 46 donors Silver level ($25) - 78 donors Bronze level ($10) - 160 donors Total donors - 315 players and coaches Please consider joining their ranks and help provide a less fortunate boy / girl with the opportunity to play the great sport of lacrosse next Spring. |
