Hope everyone is doing well!

It is time to REGISTER for the 2010 Spring GBYLA Lacrosse Season.  We are expecting to have close to 60 lacrosse teams this spring.  There will be over 1,000 youth lacrosse players in the Birmingham Metro area.  That is incredible and the GBYLA looks forward to having another great season.

Registration Information:
      Regular Registration December 5th – January 10th
Late Registration January 11th – January 25th ($40.00 LATE FEE)

To register go to the home page and
click the big grey and red box at the top of the home page.  Once you have logged into your GBYLA account, follow the prompts to register your player or to add a player or to add yourself as a volunteer.  With the growth we are expecting this season, we will need your help.  Also, if you have a friend that is a possible first time player, please forward this e-mail to them and let them know the steps to create a new account are directly below the login box on the home page.

I want to stress to you that our Youth Division (1st – 8th grade) teams will be capped at 25 players per team and that registration is being handled on a first come, first serve basis.  Once the 25 player cap is reached, a waiting list will be maintained, and if you are on that waiting list, there is no guarantee you will be able to play on your community’s team. Accordingly, I would encourage you to register as early as possible and not to wait until the last minute to register and risk being put on a waiting list.  For those communities which will have 2 teams in an age division, the cap will be 50 players in that division rather than 25.

Please remember if you are interested in becoming a referee or a coach, the GBYLA has tools in place to help you achieve that DREAM!  Please contact me at #914-4895 or
hunter@gbyla.org .

After registration is complete in January and teams are established,  which will take place during the last half of January, your coaches will contact you.  Most Varsity and JV Men’s and Women’s teams will start practicing in mid to late January, and the youth teams will start practicing in early to mid-February.  The first league games will begin in late February /early March, and the league season officially ends May 1st and 2nd with the State Lacrosse Championship Games!

Last but not least, I want to ask for your continued financial support of our Player Sponsorship Program by making a voluntary contribution when you register your player.  Thanks to the fantastic support we received last year during the registration process, we raised over $10,000 from lacrosse parents for the PSP Program.  As a result, we were able to provide start-up lacrosse equipment for 3 new start-up City of Birmingham teams, and also for several over-the-mountain players who otherwise would not have been able to play.  We had some terrific success stories last Spring involving players who received PSP support, and we would like to be able to continue providing this type of support going forward so that we can attract as many players as possible to this great sport, regardless of their financial circumstances.

I am already looking forward to a great 2010 Spring Season.  In the meantime, I wish you and your family a Merry Christmas and Happy Holiday Season.

Laxmas Cheer,
